The Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors Association has welcomed a third provider of meals for its popular Meals on Wheels program.
Almost 200 Community Care volunteers have been delivering hot meals to seniors in Picton since 1980. Providers since that time, Hallowell House and H. J. McFarland Memorial Home and now joined by Lisa and Colin Williams of the Williams Family Diner.
“Homemade food is their specialty” said Debbie MacDonald Moynes, executive director. “We’re sure that the seniors who receive these meals will find them tasty and nutritious, too.”
Community Care has available both hot and frozen meals that are low in sodium. Special diets can be accommodated. Requests for meals are received from seniors, their family and caregivers, physicians and others.
The Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors Association supports seniors to live at home. Services include delivery of hot and frozen meals, transportation to medical appointments & shopping, noon-time dinners for seniors in central locations, help with Income Tax, reassurance programs, caregiver support and respite, homemaking, yard work and home maintenance. The agency is partly funded by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care through the South East Local Health Integration Network and supported by donations and community fundraising efforts.
