Wins, losses and high drama with County Kings

The County Farm Centre/Beatty Seeds U9 Kings kicked off their season with an exhibition game against Frontenac this weekend.

The Tim Dainard Electric U11 Kings sandwiched a pair of losses around their first win of the 2026-27 Eastern Ontario Minor Hockey League regular season.
On Friday, the Kings were in Stirling and couldn’t beat the Blues in their home opener. The hosts dethroned the Kings 7-3 on this night. Prince Edward County goals came off the sticks of Emmett Cameron (2) and Mason Mitchell.
The following day, the Kings crowned the host Napanee Stars 6-3. Midway through the second, Cameron counted for the Kings first of the game and then set up Emmett Engelsdorfer nine seconds later to put the Kings ahead 2-1.
In the third, Henry Hagerman tied it for the Stars on the power play only to have Maxx Benson fire his first of the year from Dax Clark at 12:25 to put Kings back on top 3-2.
Another Stars power play tally at 5:09 had the locals squeezing their sticks but only temporarily.
Engelsdorfer fired up the game winning tally at 4:48. Kaius Collinge added a goal in the third and Mason Mitchell got in on the act, adding a shorthanded effort before the buzzer sounded.
Finley Sarley and Benson added helpers.
On Sunday at home in Wellington, the Kings struggled against the visiting Frontenac Flyers and dropped a 6-2 decision. The Kings trailed 6-1 after the second with Dax Clark scoring the lone goal for the Kings of the period. In the third, the Kings held off the pressure and Cameron found the back of the net on a nice feed from Engelsdorfer.
The U11 Kings are off until the Oct. 23-25 weekend when the Prince Edward County Minor Hockey Association hosts the 15th annual Milk Up tournament
There was high drama at the hangar in Frontenac on Saturday as the U13 Terra Vista Kings tangled with the Flyers.
Down 2-0 but still in the game thanks to the goaltending services of starter Aiden Hebert, the Kings went to work early in the third and the locals were rewarded. Alex Runions made a crisp pass to Lane Bulten who used a passing lane to fire a bullet to Timothy Logan Cox. The Big Island Blaster made no mistake and his first of the year put the Kings back in the game down 2-1,
Unfortunately, the Kings couldn’t solve Blake Hawley in the Flyer nest and a late Frontenac goal sealed the Kings’ fate.
The U13 Kings are back at it on Saturday when they host Campbellford in Wellington at 2 p.m.
The U15 Heidelberg Materials Kings had a tough time of it, dropping games against the Campbellford Colts and Frontenac Flyers over the weekend.
The Kings lone bright spot on Saturday against the Ponies was a second period Nolan Rand tally.
Trystan MaCalister and Declan Vader picked up assists on the play.
On Sunday, Chase White converted a Tristan Grant feed in the second against Frontenac.
The U15 Kings go back to the drawing board on Saturday when they battle the visiting Bancroft Jets at 3:30 p.m. in Wellington.
The newly minted Taylor’d Towing and Recovery U16 Kings earned a split of their opening weekend, dropping their season opener 5-3 to the Brock Township Wild on Saturday before bouncing back and doubling the Ennismore Eagles 4-2 Sunday,.
Both games were in Wellington.
Trailing 3-1 after the second, Desmond Clark lit the lamp thanks to a sweet saucer pass by Chris Papanicalaou 1:50 into the final frame to get the Kings off and running.
Just 27 seconds later, Jasper Quaiff banged home the first of the campaign thanks to help from Gavin Hebert and Nathan Howe.
It was Howe’s second point of the game thanks to his tally in the second period.
The Kings surrendered a pair in the late going to snuff out any thoughts of a comeback.
On Sunday, the Kings shot out to a 3-0 lead and never looked back in downing the Eagles.
Papanicalaou, Quaiff, Howe and Deacon Dorrington all scored for the Kings. Assists went to Clark and Ryker Inanic.
The U16 Kings are idle until Saturday when they are off to Lindsay to try and reel in the Muskies.

The Prinzen Ford U18 Kings were in Bytown this weekend for the Capital Blues Hockey Fest. The Kings had some tough luck in Ottawa, losing a pair of one goal games and picking up a tie to go with an opening round 5-1 loss to the Leitrim Hawks. In Game 2, the Kings led 1-0 against the Canadian International Hockey Academy thanks to an unassisted second period effort by Easton Vanhecke, But two CIHA goals in the final 90 seconds upended the Kings near complete effort.
In Game 3, the Kings tied the Ottawa Sting 2-2. Wyatt Kingsley and Ryker Wood staked the Kings to a 2-1 lead in the first period but, for the second straight game, Prince Edward County gave up a late goal to thwart a winning bid.
In Game Four, the Kings again played solid but were shaded by the Loyalist Jets 1-0.
The U18 Kings kick off their season with road games against Milbrook and Bancroft this weekend.
