Torrential rain brings calls to fight flooding

FEB. 24 UPDATE – Picton residents in the area of Low and John Streets reported “a river running down the road and blocked culverts”. With water backing up, they were hoping  sump pumps would hold cout.  County workers told one resident he received three pages of calls in a half hour and they have four trucks out trying to control the flow.

Rain, at times heavy, is expected to continue tonight with the risk of a thunderstorm. Wind gusts of 50 km/h to 70 are expected to calm after midnight. Temperature rising to +3C by morning.

Periods of rain Thursday are expected to change to periods of snow late in the morning. Temperature falling to zero in the afternoon.

Environment Canada forecasting a mix of sun and cloud with a 30 per cent chance of flurries Friday. High minus 4.

Wintry weather mix expected

FEB. 24: School buses in the tri-board area are cancelled but schools remain open as a wintry weather mix descends on southern Ontario.

Expect snow mixed with ice pellets today before turning to rain in the afternoon.

Environment Canada is noting a risk of freezing rain late in the morning and in the afternoon. Winds expected to be 30 km/h increasing to 50 and gusting to 70 in the afternoon. The high plus 1C.

More rain and wind gusts Wednesday night but the temperature is expected to rise to plus 4C by morning.

Thursday’s forcast is for periods of snow or rain. High plus 2.
Friday’s is a mix of sun and cloud with 30 per cent chance of flurries. High minus 2.

    Given the advance warning of this storm and the strong possibility of heavy rains it was imperative that catch basins be cleared. I cleared 2 on our street and it made a huge difference.
