Woman with life-threatening injuries in aggravated assault

A 52-year-old man from Picton has been charged with aggravated assault and disobeying an order of the court following a serious assault that put a woman in hospital.

Prince Edward County OPP attended the hospital call about 3 p.m. Saturday where the victim was being treated. She was later airlifted to Kingston hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The man was arrested a short time later and was charged under the criminal code with aggravated assault and disobeying order of the court.

The investigation is ongoing with members of the Prince Edward OPP Crime Unit, East Region Forensic Identification Services and the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch.

The accused has been remanded in custody until a scheduled appearance this week at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville.
