Yard/garage sales prohibited during pandemic

Garage or yard sales will be temporarily prohibited in Prince Edward County while emergency measures are in place during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Councillors at their second virtual meeting Thursday morning, joined several municipalities in the province to stop the sales, aligning with provincial orders that prohibit gatherings of more than five people. Fines for contravening provincial orders start at $750.
Chief Building Official Andy Harrison noted the bylaw refers to multiple tables set up with household items for sale, not single items at the end of a driveway.
Councillor Phil Prinzen likened the bylaw to “babysitting” noting if people were worried about contracting COVID-19 they wouldn’t be holding yard sales, and wouldn’t be attending them, either.
