The sun shone on about 3,000 students gathered at Zwick’s Island Park in Belleville Wednesday for Celebration of Dance, hosted by the Hastings Prince Edward District School Board.
The event, in its 28th year, still features the ‘Cotton Eyed Joe’ dance as the longest running, along with new dances proposed by schools, this year including ‘Thunder’, ‘Waka Waka’ and ‘The Greatest’.
Students learn the dance moves at their respective schools and practise them over several weeks before the event.
The park was abuzz with the arrival of 70 school buses from 24 elementary schools in the district.
Participants from the County included students from Athol South Marysburgh, CML Snider, Kente and Sophiasburgh.
