30th annual derby lures 5,000 anglers

Walleye, pike and big prizes were the lure for more than 5,000 anglers who entered the 30th annual Kiwanis Walleye Weekend fishing derby on the weekend.

Jamie Walker landed a 17.1740-pound Pike to win the senior pike division and a 15 H.P Mercury (4 Stroke) Outboard, 14 Lund Boat with Trailer. Nick Monger’s 11.7 lb catch earned him top prize in the walleye category and – a 25 hp Lund (4 Stroke) Outboard, 16′ Lund Boat with Shorelander Trailer. Tyler Winter also snagged $1,000 when he reeled in a ‘tagged’ pike.

The live-release event raises funds for community projects supported by the area’s Kiwanis clubs – including camps, minor sports, church and hospital projects.
