PECMH staff and volunteers honoured for being awesome!

A “congratulations for being awesome” cake was served up for staff, physicians and volunteers at Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Wednesday.
All were invited to a quick celebration for being recognized by the National Research Corporation as the top performing community hospital in Ontario – in the overall patient care category.

The recognition, based entirely on patient surveys, is a significant achievement, said Steve Blakely, Chairman of the Quinte Healthcare Board.

“You are already delivering on QHC’s vision of ‘Exceptional Care, Inspired by You’,” he said. “Whether it’s a welcoming smile from patient registration; a triage nurse who takes the extra minute to calm an anxious family member; or a volunteer quietly holding a patient’s hand, you are all finding many small and big ways to create exceptional patient experience, every day.”

Blakely said that while health care has continued to evolve and change, “in many ways PECMH has retained its wonderful, small town hospital culture that began when the hospital was opened in 1919. It was staffed by a group of people who wanted to make a difference in people’s lives and ease the suffering of patients and families. Almost 100 years later, you are continuing on that legacy and culture of compassion.

“On behalf of the board, but most importantly, on behalf of this community, your patients and their families, thank you for everything you do to deliver exceptional care, every day.”

Mary-Clare Egberts, CEO and President of QHC, also offered her congratulations to members of the PECM Hospital Foundation, the Auxiliary and the hospital staff.
