Accidental 911 calls, collisions, vandalism, fraud among 213 PEC OPP incidents

Prince Edward County Ontario Provincial Police officers dealt with 213 incidents this past week – including calls related to collisions, vandalism, fraud, alcohol, thefts and accidents involving deer.

Prince Edward OPP Community Safety Officer Patrick Menard reports several of the incidents among 17 accidental 911 calls, 10 motor vehicle collisions, and traffic related incidents. Eight RIDE programs were also conducted during this time period.

Aug 19

A single vehicle collision on Loyalist Parkway sent the driver to hospital with minor, non-life threatening injuries. No charges were laid.
A female was located after being reported missing for several hours. No concerns and park wardens confirmed they made contact with the female.

Aug 18

Police assisted Sandbanks Provincial Park staff with Liquor Licence Act enforcement. Three Provincial Offence Notices given along with three warnings.
Stationary Radar enforcement conducted on County Road 10. Three Provincial Offence Notices handed out and one warn provided
A 39 year old Picton resident was charged for impaired driving after police received a traffic complaint and the vehicle was located.
Three separate non-criminal domestic related occurrences were investigated by police within an hour time frame. All parties spoken to by police.

Aug 17

Around 9am police responded to a three vehicle collision at County Road 8 and 17. A 53 year old County Road 18 female was transported to the Picton Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Vehicles removed by Shantz towing and a male from County Road 13 was charged under the Highway Traffic Act
Hospital staff contacted police to report a 89 year old male had left the hospital and suffers from Alzheimers. Male located and transported back to the hospital without incident.
A youth was charged with assault with a weapon and held for bail after an altercation at a local treatment center. The victim, a staff member at the treatment center, received minor life-threatening injuries.
A 45-year-old male was spoken to after causing a disturbance after being refused alcohol at a Picton bar for being too intoxicated. The male returned to his residence without further incidents.

Aug 16

A concerned citizen contacted police to report a dog left in a vehicle. The vehicle was gone when police arrived. Police want to remind everyone of the danger of leaving pets in vehicles on hot summer days.
Lock it or Lose it initiative conducted on Picton Main Street. 75 vehicles checked. Five vehicles were unlocked and three of them had windows down. People are reminded to lock their vehicles at night.
A 70 year old South Marysburgh woman drove her vehicle into the ditch on County Road 13. Police attended and Holm was arrested and charged with impaired operation of a vehicle section 253(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

Aug 15

A Wellington resident reported someone went through their vehicle taking gift cards and change. No witnesses. Police are reminding people to lock their vehicles at night
A two vehicle collision on County Road 1. No injuries, both vehicles towed by Shantz towing. Driver charged with fail to stop.
Tools taken from the back of a truck while doing yard work on Picton Main St. No witnesses, no suspects. Anyone with information to this are asked to call Crime Stoppers
Police responded to a possible a call about a suicidal person in Ameliasburgh. Police and EMS attended and the individual voluntarily went by ambulance to the Belleville Hospital.
Police requested at Bayfield Treatment home for an altercation that occurred between staff and youth. All parties were spoken to and confirmed accidental. Police not required.
A senior’s residence contacted police to report an assault between two elderly residents. Reported as per home’s protocol. No injuries, no charges.

Aug 14

An Athol resident contacted police to report ongoing issues with the landlord. Not a police issue as landlord / tenant issues are a civil matter falling under the Landlord, Tenant Act. 613-966-8686 is the number to call for information regarding this.
A County Road 19 resident contacted police – upset due to giving personal information to a CRA scam artist. Police remind residents to never give personal information over the phone or computer and verify information before sending money to a bill collector. If in doubt, do not provide the information.
A 42 year old Picton woman was held until sober after an altercation occurred and the female would not leave when asked. Female was removed and without incident.
An intoxicated male contacted police to report his dog was lost in his yard, possibly stolen. Dog located, police not required.

Aug 13

Light posts outside a King Street Picton address were damaged sometime during the previous evening. No witnesses or suspects Occurrence forwarded to the Frontline Support Unit (FSU) for follow up.
Single vehicle collision on Wellington Main Street. Property damage only, minor damage to both vehicle and building vehicle hit. No injuries.
Wellbeing check requested for an 80 year old Consecon female who had not contacted her friend in a few weeks. Check completed. Female in good health.
While at a RIDE initiative on Loyalist Parkway, an officer checked 78 vehicles which resulted in two Highway Traffic Act (HTA) warnings, 1HTA charge and a 3 day licence suspension for registering an “ALERT” on the roadside screening device for a female driver.
A vehicle was demolished when it swerved to miss a deer and hit a rock face on a Prince Edward County Road. No injuries. Vehicle removed by Shantz towing.
Another motor vehicle collision involving a deer. Sometime around 9pm a vehicle travelling on County Road 1 struck a deer. No injuries.
