Alliance Against School Closures wants to hear from County residents
Administrator | Mar 01, 2018 | Comments 2
I am a founder of the Ontario Alliance Against School Closures (OAASC). In November of 2016, our Alliance garnered support from almost one million Ontarians to lobby the Ministry of Education for a moratorium on school closures. That moratorium went into effect June 28, 2017.
Unfortunately, many schools were shuttered because of a flawed Pupil Accommodation Review process and just prior to the moratorium announcement. This has led to the OAASC conducting Post Consolidation Experience Surveys seeking responses from students, parents and teaching staff.
We are attempting to get our surveys out to groups in your area that experienced a closure/consolidation, specifically the above groups that were:
– displaced from Pinecrest Memorial Elementary School, Bloomfield (JK-6) and consolidated to Queen Elizabeth School, Picton;
– displaced from Pinecrest Memorial Elementary School, Bloomfield (grade 7-8), to Prince Edward Collegiate, Picton
– displaced from Hillcrest School to Prince of Wales Public School, Belleville
I would appreciate any assistance you could offer to reach out to people you may know in these communities who would like to respond to these surveys. Results will help us form a response to the Ministry of Education as they revise the Pupil Accommodation Review and Community Planning & Partnerships guidelines during the moratorium.

Sue i agree with you taxpayers in general are paying a large portion of the school education tax the bottom line is where it has to be
While I support this effort I must ask: Why are tax payers not invited to complete a survey? After all, the bulk of residential tax dollars go to education/schools so wouldn’t you want to know how the taxpayers perceive these changes? It’s about the bottom line and I feel those paying for the bottom line should have a say.
