Appreciation Day celebrates life in the cemetery

“Appreciation Day is a celebration of life in the cemetery,” said Sandy Latchford, chairperson of Glenwood Cemetery in Picton, welcoming a goodly crowd to the recent event.
During this year’s activities, County photographer Phil Norton led a nature photography outing and included basic DSLR, pocket camera and phone camera instruction. Participants were to explore the rich floral, forest and wetland habitats at the cemetery and along Marsh Creek.
The photographers also captured the dedication of a monument to Kate the swan goose who was killed in the spring. The words on the stone read: “Thanks for the Memories, Kate”. The new Kate also lost the love of her life last year, to a hungry fox.
Norton hosts photography outings and workshops for photographers, artists and nature-lovers.

Since moving to Prince Edward County, Ontario in 2007, Phil Norton has explored the Quinte Region by bicycle, kayak and on foot and has captured its many moods in photos which appear in local publications, websites and on his postcards.
