JAN 31 – Jeanette Arsenault hopes to see her song “This Is My Canada”, become a melody for Canada’s 150th birthday celebrations.

Jeanette Arsenault

The former County resident and long-time entertainer and performer here has teamed up with music industry friends to launch a ‘Go Fund Me’ page to help with the creation of a professional recording of the song and a video. She will be donating proceeds to various charities.

“This Is My Canada represents everything Canadian and reflects our great sense of pride and the intensity of all that makes our nation great,” said Arssenault.

The song has been performed for the Canadian Olympic Team in Salt Lake City in 2002 and Athens, Greece in 2004. She also sang it as VIA Rail’s Artist on Board from Toronto to Vancouver and at multiple venues across the nation.

The song, written in 1992, was featured on her first album ‘From the Heart’ in 1994 which she called “an album of uplifting songs about Canada, everyday heroes, Acadian heritage, friendships, God and other subjects close to my heart.”

Arsenault notes a Canadian team of multiple award-winning music industry professionals and session musicians (multiple Juno awards) has lined up to create a world-class recording of the song and to create a professional music video production.

“I am fortunate to have two key people come on board,” she said. “One is music industry consultant Don Coleman of A/R Group International. He is endorsed by Gordon Lightfoot, acknowledged by the Jeff Healey estate and recognized by AC/DC and will be coordinating many aspects of the project, including utilizing the expertise of his team on the production of the sound recording, as well as publicity and charitable elements of the campaign.

The music video is to be produced by Canadian Randall P. Dark, a pioneer of HDTV and an accomplished documentary filmmaker, writer, director and producer whose credits include “Fast From The Past”, “Angels Sing” starring Harry Connick Jr. and “Makarios: A Rising Tide” documentary about a school in The Dominican Republic to name a few. He has also worked on music videos with Willie Nelson, Lyle Lovett among others.

The singer and songwriter enjoys sharing thoughts and music in a multitude of venues including schools, festivals, theatres, corporate boardrooms, and conferences.

She has also had the honour of performing for HRH Queen Elizabeth II at the Royal Visit to Ottawa in 1992. That same year she received a call from the Captain of HMCS Preserver noting they were playing the song over the ship’s sound system off the coast of Somalia.

She notes any contribution, big or small, is welcomed to help the project take flight. Everyone who contributes will receive a specially packaged limited-edition personally autographed CD single of the brand new version of “This Is My Canada,” that includes four versions – English, French, bilingual and an instrumental performance track version.

“This Is My Canada was written from the center of my heart for all Canadians,” she said. “Please join our team and proudly proclaim, “This Is My Canada!”
