The Friends of the Bloomfield Branch Library hosted a tile painting workshop with Perry and Lisa, of Palat Pottery in Belleville. Participants learned to use the Majolica process to create beautiful tiles. We appreciate the Friends making events like this one possible.
Thanks to a donor fund through the County Foundation, we are excited to be offering a “Learn to Sew” workshop at the Picton Branch in November. Participants will leave with a finished tote bag. The first session is full, but if you are interested in participating, please join the waiting list to be notified if we are able to run the series again.
On Saturday, Nov. 21 at 2p.m., Carlyn Moulton will join us at the Picton Branch Library to talk about “One Curator’s Surprising Journey with Sculpture”.
Moulton grew up in a strict religious cult rigorously devoid
of sculpture, lest it “lead to the idolatry so common amongst the Catholics and the heathens”.
Today she leads the Oeno Gallery, a Prince Edward County team that develops, showcases, promotes and installs more sculpture around the world than any other Canadian gallery. Why does sculpture play such a significant role in public spaces? How do sculptures change our experience and understanding of space? What can 3D artistic works do that 2D can not? Come and hear the story of her journey, and her observations about the critical voice of sculptors in our communities.
All are welcome.
