Art is ‘Rooted and Growing’ at the Bloomfield library

Tom Harrison shared his experience in artist Rhonda Nolan’s ‘Portal to the Cosmos’.

The Bloomfield Branch Library is alive with art this summer. Thanks to an initiative from the Friends of the Bloomfield Branch Library, artists from across Prince Edward County have their work on display in the branch.

For example, local residents and visitors have been drawn in to the library by Rhonda Nolan’s inventive “Portal to the Cosmos”, a photo op station proving to be full of fun. Some of the photos taken in the “portal” have been posted to Instagram under @portal_rhonda.

The overall theme for the show is “Rooted and Growing”, a concept that addresses tradition meeting evolution, acknowledging the heritage of Bloomfield and Prince Edward County, while recognizing change and growth.

“The library is more than simply the venue – it embodies the very idea of being rooted in community while continuing to grow and evolve,” said Janice Duffy, a member of the Friends who suggested the theme initially.

The art show continues until October and pieces will change as they are sold – one piece by Dianne Cole has already been sold – so it’s worth checking in more than once.

The library thanks the Friends for making this show possible.

The Bloomfield Branch Library, at 300 Main St., is open Tuesdays from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
