The Athol-South Marysburgh Public School Intermediate Boys Soccer team won district level play last week. The achievement was the first district win for the school in close to two decades – as the last win is believed to be in 2008.
After being undefeated at regionals earlier this month, beating hosts Kente in the finals (3-1), the team moved onto district action, and was undefeated again, this time beating hosts Bayside 4-0 in the finals.
In regionals, the team went 6-0, 29 goals for, 1 against. At district, the team went 4-0, 14 goals for, 1 against.
Last week at the district tournament, they won 3-0 against Bayside; 3-1 against Stirling; had a 4-0 semi win against Bancroft and the 4-0 final win against Bayside.
Remington Leavitt scored nine goals, Jack Cleave and Noah Thompson had two each and Nico Gierak came in with one. Elliott van der Bij was in net for the team, coached by Andrew White.
