Bay of Quinte MP appointed to National Environment Committee

Environment Committee Chair MP Shannon Miedema with Bay of Quinte MP Chris Malette

Chris Malette, Bay of Quinte MP, has been appointed to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development.

The committee plays a key role in reviewing federal environmental policies, legislation and programs.

“I am honoured to be appointed to the Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development,” said Malette. “This is an important opportunity to help shape policies that protect our natural environment while supporting sustainable economic growth. I look forward to working with colleagues from across the country to advance practical solutions on climate action, conservation and responsible resource development.”

Malette brings prior municipal and regional environmental experience to the role, having served on the Green Task Force during his tenure on Belleville city council. He also served as both chair and vice-chair of the Quinte Conservation Board, where he helped guide watershed management, conservation initiatives and environmental stewardship efforts across the region.

He said the appointment will help ensure the priorities of Bay of Quinte are reflected in national discussions, particularly as communities work to balance environmental protection with economic growth.

“Our focus remains clear: protect our lands and waters, support communities and ensure a strong, sustainable future for Canadians,” he added.
