Bubblefest bursts into festival fun at Wellington

happy-2The bubble has burst on Tina Konecny’s first Bubblefest in Wellington on the weekend but festival goers are bubbling up and bubbling over with praise for the event.

Tiny bubbles blown from small plastic sticks to gigantic bubbles that allowed people to walk on water were featured at the inaugural event.
“Some of the things didn’t quite go as I had planned,” said Konecny, as bubbles blown by children of all ages swirled around the Wellington Park. “Overall, I’m very happy about it and a little overwhelmed, but happy.”

bubblemppJust over 450 people showed up at the arena to attempt to break the world record for popping bubble wrap (see video). Bubbles of record fame were broken as 943 poppers were needed but participants didn’t seem to mind as they laughed, stomped, danced and popped away.

Michele and Peter Sloski, of Picton, were enjoying the breeze by the lake and testing giant bubble wands they bought for their grandchilden.

Hundreds of bubble fans participated in a flash mob dance to the song “Happy”, played games, created bubble wrap fashions, chewed bubble gum and tried to blow giant bubbles, played bubble soccer and waved bubble wands and guns.

Teena Lemieux, of Cambridge, amazed her new fans as she transformed her sticks and ropes into utensils to create enormous bubbles that floated above the crowd at Wellington Park, and occasionally, briefly enveloped a spectator.

“Everybody loves bubbles,” said Konecny. “Look at these happy people.”
