Business Panthers take pride in Backing the Build for new hospital

Prince Edward Collegiate Institute Panther Pride was out in full force again this week.

The students have been in the news for their volunteer work filling sand bags for County residents unable to do so, as they try to protect their homes from flooding.

Friday, under the leadership of teacher Rob Garden, Grade 10 business and marketing students showed their community spirit with a donation to the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation’s Back the Build Campaign.

Garden’s class visited the hospital to hand deliver $700 they raised – profit from running two-day business ventures that included food sales and other initiatives spearheaded by the students as part of their studies.

Shannon Coull, executive director for the PECMH Foundation accepted the donation from class representative, Zoe, and thanked the group for investing their hard earned dollars into the future of their local hospital.

“When asked how many students have used the services of PECMH in the past year, several raised their hand,” said Coull. “Everyone present has either visited or knows someone who has benefited from having a hospital close to home.”

The funds will be designated to the new hospital campaign. The students were pleased to hear their gift helped the Foundation exceed the $11M mark for dollars raised for the campaign. The Foundation has a goal of $16.5M for the redevelopment project.

The class thanks the students, staff and community members who supported their businesses.
