Butterflies are free at Q.E.

butterfly-release-QE-scAbout 80 students in three Queen Elizabeth Public School classes set free dozens of butterflies they had raised from caterpillars.
Over the pabutterfly-release-QE-startst three weeks, students in junior and senior kindergarden and Grades 1 and 2 studied the metamorphosis, talked about what was happening and what was next and produced related crafts.
They had received the teeny-tiny “Painted Lady” caterpillars from the Hastings Prince Edward District School Board’s special program in mid-May.
Near the end of the month some  witnessed the transformation of caterpillers into chrysalis and last Friday, the butterflies began emerging and drying out their wings. Click here to watch the videos they posted on a school blog.
While the butterflies awaited the release party, they dined on Gatorade “nectar”. Student were delighted Tuesday afternoon as they watched the release of their butterflies into the air.
