Cameras at Picton Main and Walton intersection to support new traffic light system

The County of Prince Edward is installing cameras as part of a new traffic light system at the intersection of Picton Main and Walton streets.
The system replaces road sensors that are now obsolete. The camera-based sensors are to detect traffic flow and operate the traffic lights.
The municipality states the cameras will not record footage, and they will not be used for traffic enforcement.
The contractor will be installing all-new wiring and completing the necessary work to support the system – expected to be up and running by the end of September.
Work is to take place between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Sept. 28 and 29. Traffic control measures will be in place. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area where possible.
