CHEERS! – York’s athlete of the week golden on track

CHEERS! to Track and field athlete David Mayer, of Picton, who was named York University’s male Athlete of the Week after winning gold medals in the 300 and 600 metre races at the Sharon Anderson meet at the University of Toronto this past weekend.
Competing in his first meet of the season, he finished atop a 30-runner field in the 300m race in a time of 36.50 seconds and finished first in the 600m race in a time of 1:25.26. His times were good enough to reach the OUA automatic qualifying standard in both events.
The fourth-year kinesiology and health sciences student was a member of the OUA and CIS golden champion 4 x 200-metre relay team last season.
Next up for the Lions track and field team is the Can Am meet Jan. 14-15 at the University of Windsor.
David is the son of Gerry and Karen Mayer, of Picton.
