County History Moments launched

The 2010 launch of the History Moments series was held at The Regent Theatre in Picton at 4-5:30 pm Friday, August 6th.
The History Moments are short, video vignettes on local history themes that play before movies at The Regent, are broadcast on Cogeco cablevision, have been distributed into area schools, libraries and museums, are part of the interpretative program for the 550,000 annual visitors to the Sandbanks Provincial Park, and are available online at www.historyliveshere.ca
They were launched in September 2009 to celebrate the 225th anniversary of the Loyalist settlement of Prince Edward County.
The 2010 series includes a feature on Sir John A. Macdonald’s time in Picton in the 1830s; artist Captain John Pepper Downes, the County clerk in the 1840s; the story of Miss Supertest, the fastest boat in the world when she raced off Picton 50 years ago this August; features on the logging, fishing and rum running trade during Prohibition; the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment, the most highly decorated Canadian army unit in the Second World War; and profiles of Picton’s Carnegie Library and the 175th anniversary of the Picton Fair.
Complimentary wine from one of the sponsors – The Black Prince Winery – will be served at a reception following the premiere.
