County presents civic recognition for Olympian’s medals in skating, swimming

Wearing many medals earned this year, Kim Pothier was honoured with a Civic Recognition Certificate presented by the mayor and council at their meeting Tuesday night.
Pothier, a County resident, trains with the Quinte Blades Speed Skating Club, and is a Special Olympian in both swimming and speed skating.
“This young lady has done a remarkable job,” said Mayor Steve Ferguson. “We are so happy to present you with this certificate of recognition for your outstanding achievements.”
At the Special Olympics National Winter Games held in Calgary Feb. 27 to March 2, 2024 Pothier won gold in the 333M race and silver medals in the 500M, 777M and 1000M races.
At the Special Olympics Ontario Spring Games held in Waterloo in May, she competed in swimming and brought home four gold and a silver medal. Pothier made a splash earning four gold medals in the 100m free, 400m free, 200m back and 100m IM and a silver medal with her 200m relay team.
