Crews promote random acts of kindness

Random Acts of Kindness crew members Pam Smith and Nancy Roberts were among crews who spread kindness and blue ribbons of hope across the Quinte area this week – including in Picton, Bloomfield and Wellington.

This Violence Awareness and Random Acts of Kindness Week opened with a candlelight vigil in Belleville and random acts of kindness are being promoted across the Quinte area.

The week closes on the weekend with the selection, by random draw, of the Kindness Citizen of the Year award presented at the Quinte Mall in Belleville on Saturday and the Random Acts of Kindness Day, Sunday, in which citizens are encouraged to exercise acts of kindness of all sizes.

The recognition of the week began in 1997 in Belleville, created by Pam Smith and Chris Macdonald, after Macdonald’s son, Mark Fyke, was murdered during March Break in Florida. Less than four months after his death, Belleville’s Becky Middleton was also a victim of a random act of violence in Jamaica. – Susan deWolfe photo
