Cycling through puddles for first time in a long time

A good rain overnight after the first day of fall left actual puddles for cyclists and walkers on the Lakeshore trail. This summer’s drought has been called the worst since 2016 in Prince Edward County – with 70 to 90 per cent less rain than normal over the past two months, following a very wet spring that caused late planting.

The Ontario Drought Report notes that as of August, approximately 45 per cent (489478 square kilometers) of the province is under drought conditions, causing growing challenges for agriculture and food production.

Environment Canada forecasts “chances” of showers through Friday and another sunny, warm weekend.

Quinte Conservation declared a Level 3 Low Water Condition Sept. 3 and requested its 18 member municipalities to ask residents and businesses to reduce water use by 30 per cent.
