Donations from Hospice cheer families in Wellington

Hospice-food-bank-donationHospice Prince Edward’s new residential home is already helping others – months before the doors officially open in June.
Rob Richmond, of Loyalist Contractors, has renovations of the Downes Avenue, Picton home well under way and while the crew has reused all materials possible, care to see that nothing would be wasted has made some Wellington families very happy.

Lisa and Wallace Marquardt were called to the home last week to pick up donations of kitchen cabinets, doors and a washer and dryer set as commercial grade is required for Hospice needs. The Wellington Food Bank volunteers said there are a number of families who have been looked after by the food bank who need new cabinets and doors but cannot afford to consider the process.

“This is like giving them a million dollars,” said Lisa, while she helped pack the first load in the truck. “The washer and dryer will be going to a family going through some hardship right now. They have five babies. When I told him, he cried.”

Lisa thanked Hospice Prince Edward for thinking of them for the donation and praised all who support and contribute to the Wellington Food Bank, especially its director, Linda Downey.

“It is truly heartwarming to get this,” she said. “It means the world  to us and to the people getting it.”
