People who bought smiles, gave smiles and helped raise $12,243.46 for the County’s new hospital.

“This year’s campaign was a smiling success, and it wouldn’t have been possible without the loyal support of our customers and our dedicated staff and volunteers who worked tirelessly to create over 12,000 smiles to Back the Build for our new County hospital,” said Paul Massey, owner of the Picton and Wellington Tim Hortons.

The campaign ran for one week, (April 29 to May 5) and for the 11th consecutive year, the Picton and Wellington restaurants designated proceeds of their chocolate chunk cookie sales to the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation (PECMHF).

This year’s Smile Cookie campaign pushes Tim Hortons’ cumulative giving to $92,939 over 22 years.

“Our foundation’s relationship with our local Tim Hortons family is very special,” said Shannon Coull, executive director of the PECMH Foundation. “Paul Massey and the staff at Tim Hortons continue to invest in the future of healthcare delivery in our community, which is an investment in the quality of life for our residents and visitors. This gift, made possible by all the customers who enjoyed cookies throughout the Smile Cookie campaign, goes a long way to ensuring that our community can access care close to home for many years. And that’s something worth smiling about.”

Back the Build campaign cabinet chairperson Nancy Parks also thanked Massey, the team and donors.

“You all put a smile on our faces with this year’s incredible result. Every donation, regardless of size, brings us closer to realizing our dream for a new hospital for Prince Edward County. As we approach putting shovels in the ground this summer, this gift from Tim Hortons will help ensure we have a new, leading-edge hospital armed with the best medical equipment possible.”

More than $27M is being raised for the new 96k square foot hospital – scheduled to open in 2027, with shovels anticipated to go into the ground in the fall of 2024.

Plans for the 96,000 sq-ft hospital with design potential for 23 in-patient beds include leading-edge infection control and ventilation, wider halls for modern medical equipment and larger patient rooms equipped with smart technology.

The Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation is a charitable organization dedicated to raising funds to advance health care for the people of Prince Edward County and the patients of the hospital.
