Drugs and gun seized at traffic stop

Prince Edward OPP seized drugs and a handgun during a traffic stop on Highway 62 in Sophiasburgh Friday, Dec. 3 around 3:30 a.m.

The three occupants were arrested following a search of the vehicle which resulted in the seizure of a quantity of suspected cocaine, pills, cannabis, associated drug paraphernalia, along with Canadian currency, cell phones, and a hand gun with ammunition.

A 48-year-old from Prince Edward County, a 20-year-old and an 18-year-old, both from North York, have been charged with possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine; Trafficking in schedule 1 substance – other drugs; Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was firearm; Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition; Possession of firearm, prohibited or restricted weapon obtained by crime; Transfer firearm, prohibited or restricted weapon without authority; Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000; Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition; Breach of firearms regulation- transport firearm or restricted weapon; Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose; Unauthorized possession of a firearm; and Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm.

The 48-year-old was further charged with: Tampering with serial number of firearm; Possession of fire arm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order; Breach of firearms regulation- transport firearm or restricted weapon; and Failure to comply with undertaking.

The 18-year-old was further charged with: Tampering with serial number of a firearm; and Possession of schedule 1 substance for purpose of trafficking – cocaine.

The 20-year-old was further charged with possession of a firearm knowing serial number had been tampered with.

All of the accused were released on undertakings and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on Jan. 26, 2022.
