Fire and rescue and police were on the scene of a fire on 2373 County road 1 between Hwy 62 and Wilson Road. The report indicated a field was on fire, and involved a combine harvester. They were called at about 4:15 p.m. Monday.
Firefighters worked to knock the blaze down, and stop it from crossing the road. Conditions are extremely dry in the County as there has been little to no rain over the past month.
Kirei Samuel, artist and owner of the nearby LalaLand Glass Studio, gave a shout out to firefighters on social media.
“I just want to say a big, huge thank you to all the firefighters that showed up yesterday to put out the field fire at 62 and 1. I live very close and when you all started showing up, I had hope. Thank you for what you do, putting yourselves in danger while saving complete strangers. This is what life is about.”
A social media poster called Betty Jean also stated “We are deeply indebted to Prince Edward County Fire & Rescue for their prompt response today, which alleviated the severity of the fire.
“During these dry times a farmer’s crops being saved is a noteworthy blessing. As well as the homes of the families living around them. Prince Edward County Fire & Rescue.”
