curling4County public school students’ curling skills are right on the button.

Sixty-four students on 16 teams from almost all the County’s elementary schools went end-to-end all day Friday at the curling club in Picton.

The second ‘Elementary School Curling Championship’  games team was from Sophiasburgh school, made up of Hunter McQuoid, Josh Pearson, Ethan Carter and Ryan Newcombe. They battled Athol school for the title. “B” Champions were a combination team from Queen E Sophiasburgh and St. Gregs and “C” Champions were Sonrise Christian Academy.

“Many thanks to all the schools who took part in curling lessons this year and to the Curling Club volunteers who put in countless hours of organization and instruction,” said Doug Bowers, the club’s co-ordinator for schools.

Over the last few years, club volunteer members have given more than 200 students a basic knowledge of the sport of curling and many are becoming active club members in the new junior league.
