Golf classic tees-up $27,500 for equipment at County’s hospital

The team of Matthewman, Wright, Stanton and Carlson was one of 25 foresomes in the sold-out tournament.

Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital triumphed at this year’s sold-out Teeing Up Fore Health Care golf classic.

Supporters of the third annual Teeing Up Fore Health Care golf annual classic held June 13 scored a hole-in-one for the hospital, raising $27,500 for its Foundation.

Realtors at RE/MAX Quinte Ltd. in Prince Edward County teed up support to improve care patients receive at the County’s hospital by directing proceeds toward the the foundation’s current Picture of Health campaign for medical equipment – specifically for an upgrade to the telemetry (heart monitoring) unit used in the emergency department at PECMH at a cost of more than $41,000.

Last year’s tournament netted more than $30,000 for a colonoscope at PECMH. This year’s achievement brings the three-year total raised through RE/MAX’s efforts to just over $80,500, which will bring the mercury in the thermometer outside their Lake Street office to $197,500. RE/MAX has committed to raising $250,000 for medical equipment needs at the County Hospital.

Twenty-five foursomes teed off under a mix of sunny and cloudy skies to enjoy 18 holes on the picturesque and challenging course at the Picton Golf and Country Club (a Par 72 course).

The Teeing Up Fore Health Care committee is grateful for tremendous support from the community with special thanks to Wilkinson and Company Chartered Accountants and Tax Specialists who came in as the title sponsor for the tournament for the third year and approximately 40 local businesses who came on board as hole sponsors.

Picton Home Hardware and Building Centre donated prizes for the hole activities and top foursome. The winners of the various activities throughout the day were as follows:

Longest Drive Competition:
Male – John Enright Jr. Female – Rachel Henry
Closest to the Pin:
Male – Wayne Close Female – Wendy Salt

The winning foursome was Sean McKinney, Joe Letersky, Bill Heron and Brad Whitteker at 12 under par.

The live auction included an autographed hockey stick, donated by the Toronto Maple Leafs 2016/17 team, that raised $1,050.

“The foundation raises money in our community for the purchase of priority medical equipment needed for patient care at PECMH. Each year, our County hospital staff treats more than 18,000 in our emergency department alone,” said Monica Alyea, chair of the foundation. “The foundation’s goal is to build partnerships in the County with businesses and others who will work with us to meet the needs of our fundraising endeavours to bring state-of-the-art equipment to our hospital. We are proud of RE/MAX’s ongoing efforts to Tee Up Fore Health Care in support of our County hospital.”
