Help for computer, cell, tech and online safety questions – free at the library!

There’s no question it is increasingly more difficult to find quality information online.

Convincing-looking images created by AI, articles written by bots, along with confusing and misleading social media posts all lead to confusion, and misinformation.

If you are interested in learning more about how to navigate the online world, sign up for a workshop exploring the rise of disinformation, the impact of censorship and strategies for staying safer online, set for Wednesday, March 19 at 2 p.m. at the Picton Branch Library. Register to reserve your spot by calling (613) 476-5962 or visiting peclibrary.org

Have you ever received an email that seemed a bit suspicious? Received a text from a number you don’t know wanting your personal information? On Friday, March 28, discover online safety at the Wellington Branch Library.

This talk will cover tips to help you avoid common scams and stay safer online. Bring questions. Register by calling (613) 399-2023.

The library is home to a wide range of technologies. Some, many people are probably familiar with – computers for anyone to use, a colour photocopier and scanner, and digital projectors. But there are new tools now available as well, including a Bambu Lab 3D Printer and Xtool laser cutter and engraver.

These are tools to creatively build, create and design. A workshop overviewing these two new resources is to be held on Wednesday, March 25 at 2 p.m.

Discover the possibilities and leave with inspiration for your own project ideas. Space is limited to ensure everyone gets a chance to ask their questions, so please register at peclibrary.org or call (613) 476-5962.

If you can’t make it to any of these workshops but you would still like to learn more, make a free of charge one-on-one appointment.

In addition to covering the topics above, answers are also available to any technology questions. If the library helpers don’t know the answers, they will help figure it out.

They also encourage people to make their technology work for them and can help make changes to do just that. For example, adjust the font size on a cell phone to make it easier to read, or turn off unnecessary notifications. Just ask. No question is too small or too “silly.” Library staff are happy to help.
