Hospital Auxiliary volunteers log more than 21,000 hours

Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary members were honoured Wednesday for putting in more than 21,303 volunteer hours and for raising more than $173,000 in support of the hospital at Picton.

“We’re here today to honour the thankless and selfless efforts of our volunteers,” said Ann White, outgoing director of membership and volunteer services. “The story of the year is the auxiliary’s Second Time Around Shop moving to the best location in Picton (beside Tim Hortons),” she said. “Sales are up 49 per cent and it’s due to the extraordinary volunteers who do whatever it takes to run this significantly large second hand store.

Honours to volunteers included:
6,000 hour pin: Rebecca MacKellar
4,000 hour pin: Beth McConnell and Nancy Hicks
35-year pin: Evelyn Drew
30-year pin: Joan Mercer
20-year pin: Evelyn Beaumont, Barb Claxton, Rebecca MacKellar, Brenda Minaker, Norene Pulver, Wanda Strachan, Anna Tait, Nancy Watson.
15-year pin: Henny Huiskamp, Beth McConnell, Irene Simpson, Joyce Simpson, Elizabeth Smith.
1000 hour pin: Fran Donaldson, Evelyn Drew, Sheila Ann Egan, Charlotte Harrott, Beverly Hunter, Sue Leavitt, Myrna Martin, Carol Oliver, Sue Rogers, Pauline Smith, Charlie Vincent.
10-year pin: Barbara Ansell, Mame Franklin, Pauline Jenkins, Shirley Kay, Shirley Oliver, Joan Pasila, Rosalie Tansey, Geralyn Walmsley.
