‘It’s an Honour!’ focuses on great Canadians

Get inspired by great Canadians featured in the “It’s An Honour!” travelling exhibit parked at the Macaulay House in Picton Monday and Tuesday. Visitors of all ages are welcome – free of charge.

Mounted in a specially designed 1,000 square foot trailer, the exhibit showcases stories of Canadians who have been recognized for their achievements with national honours.

“It is meant to connect with, honour and inspire Canadians and it is especially enjoyed by children,” said Francois Grenier, on hand to answer questions and guide visitors.

Over the past two years the exhibit has travelled across the nation to small towns, schools and community centres bringing an up-close and interactive look at the Canadian Honours System which recognizes people for extraordinary achievement, bravery, valour and service.

Visitors can hold actual medals, examine insignia, discover unique stories of honours recipients and watch a hologram message from former Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield.

Grenier notes the exhibit also provides an opportunity to increase national pride as Canada moves toward its 150th anniversary and the 50th anniversary of the Order of Canada and of the Canadian Honours System which was created in 1967.

And while he’s met many thousands of people over the past two years of the tour, he will enjoy a break after this week, but hopes there may be another adventure in store leading up to Canada’s sesquicentennial in 2017.

The tour ends Thursday and Friday in Peterborough.
