Last hazardous and electronic waste event Sept. 12

Residents are invited to dispose of their household hazardous and electronic waste free of charge in Wellington on Saturday, Sept. 12.

The mobile event, hosted by GFL Environmental Services, is to be held at the Wellington and District Community Centre (111 Belleville Street) from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

This is the last mobile event of the year in Prince Edward County.

Household hazardous waste can be found in almost every room of your home. These products, if thrown in the garbage or poured down the drain, can have negative effects on the environment including an impact on groundwater and surface water such as creeks, rivers, and lakes.

Automotive waste is accepted at mobile collection events. This includes motor oil, filters, and coolants. Outside of collection events, motor oil must be dropped off at the hazardous waste depot at 75 Wallbridge Crescent in Belleville.

Note: batteries brought to mobile collection events as well as the hazardous waste depot must have terminals taped. Improperly stored or discarded batteries can cause fire. To keep everyone safe, cover the terminals with non-conductive tape such as clear packing tape, duct tape or electrical tape. Do not cover the brand name or chemistry on the label.

Electronic waste will be accepted at the mobile event. Electronic waste can also be brought to the following municipal waste sites during regular hours of operation.
Sophiasburgh (35 County Road 14)
South Marysburgh (1132 Old Milford Road)
Wellington (275 Consecon Street)

Hazardous waste is not accepted at municipal waste sites.
Scrap metal will not be accepted at mobile collection events. Scrap metal is accepted at all waste sites within Prince Edward County during regular hours of operation.

Propane tanks and pressurized containers
Fertilizers
Pesticides
Insecticides and herbicides
Disinfectants
Rat and mouse poisons
Pool chemicals
Household cleaners
Used sharps
Medicines and prescriptions
Light tubes and bulbs
Gasoline and waste oil

Electronic waste includes display devices, phones, computers and peripherals, audio-visual systems, kids electronics, robots and RC toys, drones, wire and cable, auto parts, power tools, generators, light fixtures, musical instruments, microwave ovens, lawn and garden tools, cameras, clocks, video gaming devices, power supplies and extension cords, eBikes and scooters, lead acid batteries, small bar fridges, printers and air treatment devices.
