Wednesday, March 14, Lennox-Addington County Council unanimously voted in favour of Councillor Schermerhorn’s motion for a moratorium on industrial wind turbines, as follows:
“Whereas the Council of the County of Lennox and Addington has concerns over the Green Energy Act in relation to its application to industrial wind turbines; And
Whereas the Council of the County of Lennox and Addington is dissatisfied with regulations imposed by the Province of Ontario on the erection and operation of industrial wind turbines with respect to land use planning and the impact on our communities;
And Whereas the Council of County of Lennox and Addington is concerned with the conflicting information regarding the health effects of industrial wind turbines on citizens living in close proximity to these structures;
And Whereas the potential health effects is proven to be destructive and divisive to the social and cultural fabric of our rural urban communities;
Now therefore be it resolved that the Council of Lennox and Addington requests the Ontario Provincial Government to implement a moratorium on industrial wind turbines until independent health studies have been completed and a full environmental study be done to determine the possible impact, and all related potential costs be borne by the Provincial Government.”
