Library ‘friends’ support fun summer activities

The County of Prince Edward Public Library is a six branch library. If you have a membership for the Picton Branch, you can use that same card in Wellington, Ameliasburgh, or any other branch.

Each summer we hear from people who decide to tour around and make a point of visiting each of the six branches – always a fun thing to do. Each branch has its own “personality” owing to the history, contributions from the Friends of the Library, and ideas from the staff as we try to respond to the needs and interests of the community.

The Milford Branch of the Library is a hub of activity, thanks in no small part to the keen group of Friends of the Library who volunteer to support the branch. Their annual Canada Day book and bake sale was a hit again this year, and we’re so grateful for all they do to make the event a success. The proceeds from the sale support projects right in the branch and have a direct impact in the community.

The Friends of the Milford Branch are helping to arrange two special children’s programs this summer. “Dream It – Draw It!” This three-week program will kick off on Tuesday, July 14 from 1:30 to 3 pm at the Milford Town Hall. Young drawers, doodlers and curious creatives from ages 8 – 12 are welcome to join in the fun – no previous experience is required. We’re thrilled to share that artist Tim Snyder will join us for the first session. He is a multidisciplinary visual artist who will draw on his extensive career as an illustrator and cartoonist for this workshop (not to mention other work as a stop motion animator, sculpture and avid knitter).

On Wednesday, Aug. 12 at 11 am, join “Fantastic Unicorns” at the library in Milford. Games, crafts and snacks, all with a unicorn theme. Space is limited for each of these programs, so please call the branch at (613) 476-4130 or visit peclibrary.org to reserve your spot.

The Friends of the Library are also regular participants in the Milford Fall Fair – this year planned for Saturday, Sept. 19. Each year, they organize a giant book sale and children’s activities, and we hear that this year, the Friends may even walk in the annual parade that kicks off the whole day. The branch will accept book donations for the sale starting in September.
