Local broadcaster to seek Federal Conservative Party nomination

Tim Durkin

Local radio broadcaster Tim Durkin, 32, is seeking the Conservative Party of Canada nomination to represent the Bay of Quinte riding in the 2019 federal election.

The Loyalist College grad and his wife Jennifer are expecting their first child this summer.

“Moving into politics has been something Jennifer and I discussed years ago, when we first met.” Durkin said. “One day we wanted to play a role in the kind of country we would leave to our kids. Canada faces a lot of challenges like free speech, major deficits, and major economic concerns that are making it harder for everyday Canadians.”

“I believe the Bay of Quinte area needs stable growth, unwavering community support and a strong, visible presence that represents its interests in Ottawa,” he stated. “I believe there is no substitute for hard work and the willingness to make the right choices on difficult issues.

Durkin stated too much of politics today is about dividing people into groups that politicians think they can get to vote for them.

“This country is better when our leaders focus on what make us all Canadians. The difficulties that Jennifer and I encounter every day are the same as those faced by families across this country.”

Durkin is an on-air personality and journalist with Quinte Broadcasting (CJBQ, Rock 107, Mix 97, Quinte News), and game night host for the Belleville Senators of the AHL.

He has volunteered and supported the Belleville General Hospital Foundation, Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation, the Trenton MFRC, St Michael’s Youth Group, Volunteer and Information Quinte, the Walk for Parkinson’s and Gleaners Food Bank, among others.
