MADD about PECI students’ Don’t Drink and Drive videos

Creating awareness campaigns for Mothers Against Drunk Driving, “is probably one of the most real-life assignments PECI students may do in high school,” said Doug Norman, of MADD Quinte.

Students of Rob Garden’s marketing course were challenged with developing a public service campaign directed at young people and focusing on the effects of drinking and driving; the prevention of drinking and driving or the general awareness of drinking and driving.

“The students research about the consequences of impaired driving, create a way to stop it and promote MADD Quinte,” said Norman. “This is a huge assignment but in my opinion it’s probably one of the most real-life assignments they may do in high school. Impaired driving will affect everyone during their life, either by knowing a victim, being a victim or by being the impaired driver. From this assignment hopefully all the students will make the right decision to not drink and drive.”

The project was the students’ culminating activity for the dual credit marketing course between PECI and Loyalist. These students earned both a high school and a college level marketing credit this semester, and used the knowledge and skills gained over the past five months to complete their campaigns.

The videos presented below were just one component of the campaign which could also include the use of social media, print and radio advertising, point of purchase displays, and a professional 10-minute presentation to peers and judges.

“We recognize and thank MADD Quinte for their continued support of this worthwhile project and cause,” said Garden.

Judges included Doug Norman, Belleville City Police Officer and MADD Quinte co-president with Kerri Jianopoulos, public health nurse; Anthony Mann, PEC community services officer and Jodi Donovan, the newest member with MADD Quinte.
