Ann Moffatt, Volunteer Shelter Manager, Loyalist Humane Society says there are currently more than 200 cats and kittens looking for their “forever” homes.
“Some people think of cats as a disposable pet,” she said. “A lot of summer people abandon their cats at the end of the season.”
The shelter is holding a yard sale today and tomorrow, Saturday, June 26, at 1297 County Rd. #4 (Talbot St.) as one of their many ongoing fundraisers. Moffat promises plenty of fine pre-enjoyed items to choose from and the proceeds all go to the shelter.
“We receive no government funding,” she said. “We run by generosity of the public and the hard work of our wonderful volunteers.”
There are more than 200 members supporting the society, paying $25 per person and $40 per family to be a member. For that they get notification of all up-coming events and discount coupons from various retailers in the local area.
Volunteers are always welcomed and can expect to be on duty for at least a couple of hours at a time to clean and feed the cats.
The up-side is that you also get to enjoy the company of the cats.
