New Walk for Alzheimer’s to help Make Memories Matter
Sue Capon | May 11, 2015 | Comments 0
The Alzheimer Society of Hastings Prince Edward will host a Walk for Alzheimer’s in Wellington Saturday, June 13 as part of the nationwide launch of the new walk.
Walks will roll out in more than 120 communities across Canada in May and June, uniting people with one common mission: a world without Alzheimer’s disease.
Participants in the new Walk for Alzheimer’s are making a difference for people living with Alzheimer’s disease, and also honouring a family member, friend or neighbour by “making their memories matter”.
The public is invited to join in for an interactive walk through Wellington, face painting and other activities in the park – and the chance to win prizes. Registration begins at 9:30 am, with the walk taking place from 10 – 11 am.
There will be prizes for the top individual fundraiser, youth fundraiser and team. Teams can register online at www.walkforalzheimers.ca to start fundraising. Or, pick up a pledge form at the Wellington Remax office.
“We’ve had amazing support from the Wellington community, and have the Rotary Club of Wellington, The Wellington Firefighter’s Association and the Wellington Pharmacy as our three main event sponsors and, other sponsors including the East & Main Bistro, Wellington Chiropractic, and the Ainsworth Funeral Home,” said Amelia Huffman, Interim Fund Development Coordinator at the Alzheimer Society of Hastings-Prince Edward.
If you can’t join the walk, you can still support the local Alzheimer’s Society by visiting the Picton branch office, 90 King St., Picton, or donating online at www.walkforalzheimers.ca
For further information, call Huffman at 613-962-0892, extension 7013.

• The Alzheimer Society Message Board is a great place for caregivers to share common experiences and advice. It is free to register.
• A support group can give you a place to talk with other caregivers who understand the disease and know just what you’re going through.
• A counsellor or trained professional can help you talk through your feelings and concerns in a more intimate setting.
