New year brings brighter real estate market

The new year is looking brighter for local real estate as the first month’s sales numbers come in stronger.

“January monthly dollar sales for all property types comes in at $53,054,540, a significant 25.1 per cent increase over 2018,” said Cathy Polan, President Quinte and District Association of Realtors.

The January sales for residential listings, she said, come in with an equally significant increase of 33.3 per cent with $48,425,533 for 2019 compared to $36,316,450 for 2018.

“The January residential average sale price continued the positive trend of the past few years, with the average price coming in at $331,682 an increase of 8.7 per cent over the same month in 2018,” she said.

Active residential listings she said continues a strong positive trend that started in March 2018, with 722 listings compared to 456 listings in 2018.

“This reflects a significant 58.3 per cent increase over last year. This strong number also indicates the local real estate market has a substantial number of properties available on the market so this may be the year you find your dream property.”
