Damages are estimated at approximately $700,000 in a fire Wednesday night that involved a garage and home on Christian Road.
Prince Edward County Fire & Rescue personnel from stations 4 and 9 with support from stations 1 and 2 responded to a garage fire at 8:23 p.m. and arrived to a fully involved house fire. All occupants safely escaped. The fire was brought under control at approximately 9:30 p.m.
The fire is being investigated to determine the origin and cause, and is not considered suspicious.
Interim Fire Chief Tim Kraemer reminds residents that homes equipped with regularly tested and maintained smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and a planned and practiced escape increase the chances of survival during a fire.
