One person died as a result of fire in Picton – investigation continues

UPDATE: One person has died as a result of a fire at the 113 West Mary Street apartment building in Picton Friday, June 14.

“We extend our condolences to the family of the victim,” Fire Chief Chad Brown says. “It is a sad day for our community with this person perishing suddenly in the fire.”

Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue responded to an apartment fire at  1:49 p.m.  Crews found a room on fire upon entry, to the apartment and quickly extinguished the fire.

Brown states one person was removed from the apartment by firefighters and transported to the hospital. The person was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Prince Edward OPP are  investigating with the assistance of the Ontario Office of the Fire Marshal, the Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

The OPP responded alongside Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue and Hastings Quinte EMS to the fire.

Police report no further information will be released at this time.
