OPP break up birthday party, send traveller back to quarantine

Prince Edward County OPP officers broke up a birthday party and sent a traveller who should be in quarantine home over the weekend.

Constable Aaron Miller, PE OPP Community Safety Officer, said officers responded to a call about a birthday celebration on the weekend.

“Partiers were reminded of the regulations surrounding the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act. The individuals accepted the warning and complied with officers,” he said.

Also over the weekend, officers spoke with a man who recently returned from outside the country had gone grocery shopping.

“Officers explained the potential impacts of defying the Quarantine Act and province-wide emergency orders currently in place. The individual complied and returned home,” said Miller.

Detachment officers also responded to more usual calls over the course of the weekend.

Friday, officers conducted a traffic stop on Main Street in Picton shortly after 10 p.m. As a result of further investigation, the driver, a 27-year-old man from Prince Edward County, was arrested and charged with Operation While Impaired and blood alcohol concentration (80 plus). He was also charged with driving a motor vehicle with no insurance.

The driver was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on June 24, 2020. He was also given a 90-day driver’s licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Saturday April 18, shortly after 3 p.m., officers received a traffic complaint of a vehicle being driven in an erratic manor. Officers located the vehicle in Carrying Place and charged the 50-year-old driver from Oshawa with Operation while Impaired and possession of a schedule one substance.

The driver was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on June 24. He was also given a 90-day driver’s licence suspension

Early in the morning of April 20, officers received a report of a break and enter in progress at a business on Crofton Road.

With the assistance of the OPP Canine Unit and Emergency Response Team, three people were arrested – a 20-year-old woman from Brighton; a 20-year-old man from Belleville; and a 20-year-old man from Trenton. They were charged with break and enter and were released on an undertaking and are scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on July 8.
