The PECI Panther Girls Hockey team is looking for wins Wednesday at tournament in Napanee to turn the tide from double losses in away games this past week.
Their first game was against the tough Saint Theresa Titans, who the Panthers fought hard throughout the three periods. Both teams came out fast with back and forth gameplay and with both goalies stopping lots of chances in the first period.
With a zero score going into the second, both teams were looking for the first goal of the game. The Panthers started to fall back, giving the fast Saint Theresa’s team plenty of chances. Those chances were shut down by goalie Maddy Rowbotham who stood on her head making great saves. Playing in their end too much resulted in a Saint Theresa’s goal – the only goal scored in the game.
The Panthers’ second game was Friday morning versus Trenton High, where they lost 3-0.
The game started out with both teams going back and forth, producing lots of chances to score. Both goalies stopped the chances, but Trenton was a little faster, scoring a goal in the first period.
The Panthers were determined to score in the second and starting pushing Trenton into their end. Later in the second both teams got a penalty, resulting in a four-on-four hockey game. This also resulted in Trenton’s second goal of the game. The third stayed 2-0 right until the last few minutes, when Trenton’s strong offence pressured the Panthers.
The Panthers’ last games before the holidays are in Napanee at the Strathcona Paper Centre for a tournament. Games are set for 9 a.m., 10 a.m. and noon.
