The puck will drop at 9 a.m. for PECI’s Panther Girls Hockey team competiting at the Bay of Quinte championships Tuesday, Feb. 24th in Trenton. First game is against the East Northumberland Blue Dragons. The Panthers beat the Dragons in a close match – 2-1 score earlier this month.
The winner of the first game in the one-day tournament goes to the finals, scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
The Panthers downed the Bayside Secondary School Devils 4-1 in the quarter finals of the Bay of Quinte elimination round to earn the right to attend the tournament.
Panthers were firing on all cylinders as the tallies were from all their lines, with single goals from Cailey Jones, Brooke Jackson, Kelli-Anne Maycock and Kassie Wood. Cailey, Brooke, Sam Ward and Celina Fox rounded out the scoring with helpers.
On Wednesday, Kassie Wood was the star in the last game of league play against Centennial Secondary School Chargers with a pair of goals which clinched second place with a 7-1-1 record in the league standings – just behind power house, Saint Theresas. In the 4-1 victory over the Chargers, Sarah Young and Brooke had single tallies while Abby Terpstra, Cailey and Brooke added assists.
If all goes well Tuesday, the next step would be the COSSA tournament to be held Monday, March 2nd in Peterborough.
