PECI raises more than $50,000 for charities

PECI students raise more than $50,000

PECI students celebrate raising more than $50,000 for various charities during the 2010-11 school year.

Prince Edward Collegiate Institute staff and students gathered for a group photograph to celebrate the donation of more than $50,000 for charities in Prince Edward County and around the world.

Teacher Rob Garden reports $50,068.41 was raised over the school year – not including the sponsorship of 41 Christmas Angels and the donation of more than 2,000 food items for the Picton and Wellington food banks. Donations include:  Terry Fox Run (Terry Fox Foundation): $7856;
Hoops 4 Heart (Heart and Stroke Foundation): $2321;
Christmas Auction (Salvation Army): $3625; Goat Paddy Bingo (Plan Canada): $240; Carnation Sales (MS Society of Canada): $600; Make Poverty History (Free the Children – Enerlerai Public School, Kenya) $7000; “Roxy” Fundraiser (Prince Edward Animal Hospital): $379.41; e-Waste Collection (Prince Edward Humane Society) $1916; Relay for Life fundraisers and donations (Relay for Life Prince Edward): $24500;
Marketing class (Mothers Against Drunk Driving): $831 and Daffodils (Canadian Cancer Society);$800
