PECI teacher a good sport for a good cause

PECI teacher Rob Garden was a good sport for a good cause Thursday allowing his head to be shaved by the school’s top fundraiser for last week’s Terry Fox Run.
“I’m a little nervous to do this… nah, I’m not,” laughed Alexa Prinzen as she grabbed the clippers.
Primary grade students joining in on the spectacle in the school’s cafeteria gave Mr. Garden high-fives in approval of his quest to shore up donations.
When fundraising began in September Garden pledged to allow the top fundraiser to shave his head. Prinzen earned $600 for the cause, and the satisfaction of shearing his brown locks.
Students from the K-12 school raised $12,500 for cancer research in a variety of activities and personal fundraising.
Garden also challenged his organizing Grade 11/12 Entrepreneurship class to raise $2,800 ($100/student) for the Terry Fox campaign, with the motivation he would buy them all breakfast at The Harbour Restaurant.
The class accepted his challenge, and exceeded the goal by raising $4,500. They celebrated at the restaurant on Tuesday.
Garden, anticipating his gleaming new look, planned his family Christmas card photograph session last weekend.
“I was thinking ahead,” he laughed, rubbing his newly-shaved noggin.
