Peever named Pirates’ captain; season opens Thursday

Brandon Peever

The Picton Pirates named fourth year-defenceman Brandon Peever captain for the 2012-2013 season with Evan Greer, Ryan Sizer, Brad Jacklin and Jack Davison serving as assistants.
“Peever was impressive last season and posted career highs as a 19-year-old, scoring six times while adding 29 assists in a combined 46 games,” said Ryan Woodward, Pirates General Manager and Head Coach. “The Prince Edward County native was named Picton Pirates’ Top Defenceman of the Year in 2011-12. He is a role model in the community and his work ethic has made him a fan favourite in Picton.”
Woodward said Peever not only exhibits leadership qualities and a high level of play on the ice for the Pirates, but is recognized as one the most devoted players in recent history.
“His willingness to volunteer his time to support team fundraisers and events and his team first attitude has seen him awarded the Ivan Stringer Commitment and Dedication award several times since joining the Pirates organization in 2009-2010.
“Brandon’s progression as a leader has been evident in the time he has spent here and he’s brought a high level of maturity and competitiveness to our dressing room once again this season,” said Woodward. “Brandon leads by example and is well known for his work ethic.  We have a nice mix of veteran players and young, highly skilled and determined players this year. The group is excited for the regular season to begin and Brandon shares the same high expectations for the team this season.”

Assistant captains Evan Greer, Ryan Sizer, Brad Jacklin and Jack Davison will fill out the leadership group this season.
“This group of veteran players will be asked to lead on and off the ice this season.  Evan Greer had a phenomenal playoff last spring and I expect him to build off that and be a true difference maker this season.  Ryan Sizer enters his fourth season as a Pirate and is well known for his offensive game but I expect him to take young players under his wing this year and show them how to be a complete player this season.  Brad Jacklin has worked his tail off to prepare for this year, he showed he has what it takes to play at the next level this pre-season and I expect him to take on significantly more responsibility on and off the ice this season.  Jack Davison has been among our leadership group for a number of seasons, he has come to camp motivated and I expect him to work with our youth and bring a veteran presence to the rink every night.”
The Pirates begin their season  Thursday night at Prince Edward Community Centre vs. Port Hope at 7:30pm.
